Sidonie NAULIN

Sidonie Naulin is a sociology lecturer at Sciences Po in Grenoble and at the Pacte laboratory. Her research covers economic sociology, the sociology of media and the sociology of food.

A graduate and fully certified professor in social sciences, she carried out a sociology thesis at Paris Sorbonne University on gastronomic journalism which aimed to understand how food news is produced.

This thesis led to the publication, in June 2017, by Rennes University Press, of a work entitled Des mots à la bouche. Le journalisme gastronomique en France. Using interviews and observations, a quantitative survey and textual statistics, the book focuses on understanding the way in which gastronomic and culinary press is produced. The history of this press is traced and its current market configuration analysed. A number of chapters are dedicated to career paths, to the everyday job and the construction of the notoriety of gastronomic journalists as well as the competition they are currently facing in the shape of food bloggers.

Today, her work focuses on studying the career paths of Chefs. She is notably part of the ANR (French National Research Agency) Capla (Platform capitalism) project, led by S. Abdelnour, in which she is carrying out a study of the career paths of private Chefs who use platforms to enable them to make contact with customers.

In parallel, she is launching a research project on the career profiles of Chefs, using data from the professional social network LinkedIn.
